Im wondering how i can get that instant throttle responce. I ride a 400 ex, and it has to build up or something, not so much in 1st, but all the rest of the gears.I run FMF. I've  heard you can change the pipe and it will make a big difference. Anybody got an idea?....all you pros out there.

Some pipes will be better than others but I am not so sure about night and day difference. Espc. on a stock motor. I would mod it in this order. Air filter, pipe, cams, big bore.

I beleive that a good pipe, maybe changing the cdi box and running a more open airbox with a hi flo filter (like a k&n) will give you a noticable increase.....that is if you are not really ready to mod the motor just yet. All of those things you can do yourself but may require some re jetting.

it is bored out with a 440 athena kit and a hotcams cam ,full pipe and its rejetted. I got a k&n filter also.....still not fast enough, still is dont have that instant responce with the throttle.I will look into getting a aftermarket cdi box. Any certain kind?

Sell it and buy a 450!!! haha just playing...

Get you an FCR carb. This will give you better throttle response. 400ex carbs are not known for very good throttle response. Ronnie Thomas. SEQUADS

Maybe you should consider putting an Keihin FCR carburetor on it. Expensive but much better and more tunable than the stock carb. The FCR comes stock on YFZ450's, and 06 and up TRX450R's. A company called Sudco sells them as a kit set up for paticular quads.

Ha Ha yea. i thought about getting a 450,but everyone i've rode, i didnt like.So decided to build what i already have.I did not know that about the 400ex carbs, Thanks for that info Ronnie, I will get one of those.   Thanks, guys.

ok,so a Keihin FCR carb. kit. great info.I will check into that tomorrow!   Thanks Ned.  Edelbrock carbs are only for cars and trucks I thought??

They make a carb kit for 400ex and LTZ/KFX. I put one on my KFX400 that i had before my two LT-R's. It was an improvement but after riding a friends LTZ400 that had about the same mods as my bike(440,cams, porting, yosh exhaust) i was very dissapointed. Not to mention my thumb was sore after 1 lap because the throttle spring in the Edelbrock is ridiculously stiff.
